I am a big fan of the self help genre. I have been a book worm right from my school days. Once you start your professional and family life, you start juggling with many priorities. There are few books, which i felt are my guiding light till date, and I want to share some basic axions of those books and hope they are beneficial for you.
These books act as guide posts which I refer on a weekly basis whenever I stumble upon a problem or an issue I am finding some difficulty with. These are books which I have read and re-read and used them more like an operating manual than a book.
The first is the classic book called ” Flow” – by Mihaly Cziksenmihaly. This book talks about concentration at a task at one time. This essentially talks about enjoyment in the process at hand and one of the precursors of the ” Gamification” ideas which are presently in the market. Flow talks about how one engages in an activity as if one plays a game. When one plays a game, there is complete involvement in the process and there is no distraction. Further, the time spent seems to be very short in the process of flow, but you might spend hours together in the work at hand. This is an amazing read and I highly recommend it.
The second favorite is directly linked to the idea behind flow. The book is called ” Mastery” – by Robert Greene. This book is a magnum opus in all ways. This talks about the nuances of how one becomes a master, by getting trained under a master. This is a reflection of thoughts of Flow in many ways. One should enjoy what he/she does and try to make a living out of it. This book talks about acquiring skills through being an apprentice and finding a right mentor. This is an amazing book and a mind boggling read !!!
The last and my favorite is Tony Robbins – Awaken the Giant from Within. I could say that the life story of Tony Robbins is well encapsulated in this book. How ones humble beginnings should not come in one’s way of achieving greatness in life. This book shows us that we all have the sleeping giant within us, the need is to get the spark inside us the propel us towards greatness. One of the principles which caught my mind is how we are programmed and conditioned to pain and pleasure over the years of up bringing and how we have to re-condition ourselves in times of normalcy as well as times of disruption, so that we remain relevant and be the best versions of ourselves. A great read!!!
I have shared my core beliefs shaped by these books. Have a good read in this lockdown period and beyond, and contribute to one and all around.
