Who Am I… A tiny speck of dust?

A massive galaxy like ours….

Whenever I do a good job at office or at home, I have a sense of accomplishment and pride.I have done the work to our satisfaction and it has contributed to a larger body of work which is beneficial for the organization and country at large.Unfortunately, this line of thinking is diminishing rapidly and it reminds me of an essay I wrote during my college days about man and space.

The earth as we know is a small blue planet in our solar system, our solar system is part of the galaxy called Milky way. There are several billions of galaxies across space and we are yet to fathom it. The earth as I see daily amazes me daily with its beauty and the complexity so beautifully woven around me.

Coming back to the point of my essay, I had written that we as human beings forget where we actually are, because when we see earth from space, we are a small ball of blue with white patterns all over. Here we are on this very small planet, fighting and quarreling amongst ourselves on issues which we think are matters of life and death. The ideas which we consider as big and individuals as ” rich and powerful” with inflated egos have been put to their knees by a small act called COVID. Several natural disasters could knock off all our egos if mother earth decides so.

The one lesson, which we as humans should learn in tough times as well as during our good times is gratitude. We need to show to the creator who has blessed this planet with resources. It is our responsibility to share these resources in a mutually beneficial manner.Unfortunately politics and business interests have taken this planet for a ride. There are instances where the planet has given back lashes in the form of severe natural disasters causing heavy losses of life and property.

I contemplate daily about my existence in this big and massive emptiness called space. We are swirling daily in this emptiness with our fragile egos thinking that we are the masters, but we are actually puppets in the forces of nature and in the hand of god.

  1. This short note is enough to jolt one out of false sense of self-importance. Indeed, we are merely specks of dust in this vast universe, yet we find it so hard to live harmoniously!! Surely, a point to ponder!!
